In this audio guide were going to talk about how to block distracting websites. So if you find yourself wasting time on certain sites like Facebook, Twitter, BuzzFeed, or whatever it may be, these tools are going to allow you to block any website at specific times during the day. So using these tools can have a huge impact on your ability to focus and get things done.

Now the advantage of using a desktop app is that you're going to be able to block specific websites on ALL your browsers. So the tools listed on this page go above and beyond your typical browser extension, which you might already be familiar with. In addition to that, these tools have unique ways of allowing you to lock your settings, which makes it really hard to cheat.

So there's two different ways these tools will function, some will be timer-based, and some will be schedule-based, and here's what we mean by that:

1) With a timer-based tool, you can choose a setting that says "For the next 60 minutes, let's block these 5 websites." Then, once you start the time, those 5 sites will be blocked and there won't be any way for you to access those sites until your time is up.

2) On the other hand, with a schedule-based tool you'll have more of a calendar view of when sites should be blocked. So you can choose a setting that says "Let's block these 5 websites Monday through Friday from 9am to 1pm."

So these are two ways these tools will help you remove distractions. Again, you'll often have the optional ability to lock your settings so that they can't be undone.

To wrap things up, if you want to be able to focus and accomplish more while you're working, we recommend downloading one of these tools and trying it out. You'll find options for both Mac and PC.

Wish you the best, and thanks for using TopAlternatives.
